We gave Mahama a chance to be President; we must be fair to Bawumia – Kofi Bentil
In a Facebook post, Kofi Bentil, Vice President of IMANI AFRICA, is encouraging Ghanaians to approach Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia with a fair and unbiased perspective. Bentil contends that Dr. Bawumia, who has never served as president, should be given the chance to demonstrate his capabilities. Drawing a comparison with former President John Mahama, Bentil underscores the importance of impartiality in assessing both candidates.
Bentil insists on providing an equitable platform for Dr. Bawumia, stating, “Every man deserves a fair hearing. We gave Prez Mahama a chance to be President; the least we can do is give Dr. Bawumia a fair and objective hearing. He is not President, and has never been President! I have no doubt he will be better!”
Bentil goes on to analyze the role of the Vice President in Ghana, highlighting the limited authority they hold beyond standing in for the President. Describing the Vice President as akin to an advisor, Bentil references historical decisions, such as Kwame Nkrumah’s refusal to have a Vice President. He notes that the Minister of Finance carries more influence in managing the country’s finances, and the Economic Management Team (EMT) lacks direct implementation authority, serving in an advisory capacity to the President.
Despite these constraints, Bentil expresses confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s abilities, citing him as the best Vice President ever. Recognizing his effectiveness and integrity, even in challenging circumstances, Bentil concludes by urging Ghanaians to approach the upcoming elections with an open mind. “I am entitled like everyone to my belief and choice, and I believe he is a better choice,” he asserts. “All the rest of us need to do is give the man a fair hearing.
