
President Akufo-Addo leaves for Munich, Addis Ababa
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo embarked on a significant diplomatic mission as he departed Ghana on Tuesday, February 14, 2024, leading the Ghanaian delegation to the Munich Security Conference in Germany.
The Munich Security Conference (MSC) stands as a pivotal platform for global discussions on security policy, with MSC 2024 focusing on reinforcing the rules-based international order and countering revisionist tendencies. This year’s conference will feature debates, side events, and special commemorations marking the conference’s 60th anniversary.
Following his participation in the MSC, President Akufo-Addo will proceed to attend the 37th AU Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from February 17th to 18th, 2024. Themed “Educate an African fit for the 21st Century: Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning in Africa,” the summit will bring together Heads of State to address critical educational and financial matters. President Akufo-Addo is slated to host Member States of the Commission to a breakfast meeting on Education and AU Financial Institutions, providing updates on Ghana’s role as host of the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area.
Accompanying President Akufo-Addo on this diplomatic venture are the First Lady, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, MP, as well as officials from the Presidency and the Foreign Ministry.
The President is expected to return to Ghana on Sunday, February 18th, 2024. During his absence, Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will fulfill the duties of the presidency in accordance with Article 60(8) of the Constitution. This international engagement underscores Ghana’s commitment to global security and cooperation, as well as its active participation in shaping the continent’s educational and economic future.
