Ring Announcers are a crucial part of combat sports. When we say Boxing Ring Announcers, many names pop up in our heads. Some of the Ring Announcers include the legendary Michael Buffer, Howard Finkel, Jimmy Lennon, Michael C. WIlliams, Melissa Santos, among others. Most of these Ring Announcers are male dominated even at the Global level with just a few being females.
In Ghana, host of Studio 5 on GTV Sports+, Gloria Peprah, has broken the deadlock and emerged as the first female Ring Announcer in Ghana.
She made her debut in 2021 when the CEO of Ace Power Promotions, Dr. Adae Opoku Amoako asked her to be the ring announcer for his Boxing event at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel since he sees that potential in her. Though she was reluctant to do it, she tried it and boom, she nailed it, as people watching globally commended her for her tremendous display of performance.
Gloria, who was adjudged Best TV Personality of the year 2021 for Soccer Achievers Award, said she has been a boxing fan all her life. While growing up, she would watch Ghana’s hall of famer and former WBC Super Featherweight and WBC Super Featherweight Champion, Azumah “zoom zoom” Nelson, on TV fighting with other great opponents and defeating them. This inspired her more to be part of the boxing fraternity. Now that she’s grown and she’s an astute journalist, being in the ring as an announcer gives her great joy and fond memories of her boxing Legend (Azumah Nelson) whom she wished was still in the ring in order for her to perform during one of his bouts.
Background
Gloria Peprah is a Ghanaian Reporter and Presenter. She currently works as a Broadcast Journalist at Ghana Broadcasting Corporation and presents for GTV Sports+ and GTV.
Besides this, she also engages herself as a Speaker, Media trainer, MC, Corporate or Webinar Host, Voice Over Artist, Voice Talent Coach, as well as mentors up and coming Journalists. She is also an entrepreneur, and CEO of Lifestyles by Glo, a health care organisation that deals in organic, skin and health care products.
She is currently the host of Studio 5 Morning Show on GTV Sports+ which is aired every weekday from 0700 – 0900 GMT. She’s hosted the show since its inception in 2014. Gloria Peprah also a News Anchor on GTV Sports+.
She has been a Sports News Caster at GBC Uniiq fm from 2018 – 2020. She’s hosted prestigious events on TV such as the FIFA World Cup on four different occasions as of August 2022. She’s also hosted the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Awards, Football for friendship, as well as other corporate and social Awards.
Gloria Peprah also does Voice Overs, something she’s been doing for the past 15 years and has worked on Project for GTV, MTN, Vodafone, Stanbic Bank, Stanchart, Fan Milk, Unilever Ghana Limited, among others.
